Edward, Prince of Wales, was the golden boy, his younger, stuttering, ailing brother Bertie less so. He watched the announcement of his succession from a window in Buckingham Palace with a mysterious woman by his side. Welcome to the history books.
Edward and Mrs Simpson flirted with fascists and were in effect exiled by the Windsors lest they irreparably damage the firm. You know it makes sense.

I didn't realize they changed their name to Windsor in the s, to avoid the unpopularity of their REAL, totally German name They picked the most British-sounding name they could think of, then proceeded to ignore, for the most part, their German roots and family. Although several of the family members apparently sympathized with the Nazis, which I didn't know, either, they wouldn't publicly support anything German; probably a good idea, since the British people, along with most everyone else in the world, held a lot of hatred for them for a long time.
Anyway, this was a really good book, as was The Royals by Kitty Kelley, if you, as I did, read one and needed another one to satisfy the need for more royal storytelling. A very interesting account of the Royals.
The Royal House of Windsor
Make me want to read more books like this. Brings them to life. Andrew Roberts's very short work for Kindle is a review of the lives and reigns of the House of Windsor kings and queens in the 20th century. I assume this book was commissioned by someone to mark the wedding of Prince William to Catherine Middleton. Just don't expect more.
The book gave a brief history of the last 3, the present and the future rulers from the royal "House of Windsor" Not much detail. I certainly gained a deep respect for Queen Elizabeth and her life long total devotion to the duties of the throne.
The love story of 60 plus years between Elizabeth and Phillip was very special. Short, sweet and informative. I thought it would have more on Prince William that it did. It did give a thorough history on the Windsor name. Just not what I expected from the cover pic. The author presented quietly kept secrets of the House of Windsor without stripping the dignity or dedication of its people.

Some of the behind-the-scenes incidents and history concerning Edward VIII have finally been revealed. The book was short, but I would highly recommend it for students researching the English Royal history. When I bought this book I thought it was going to be about Queen Elizabeth and her children. I didn't realize it would go back several generations.

But I have to say I enjoyed reading this book. It isn't long and boring and gives just brief descriptions of the Windsor monarchs.

Was a good look at royal history, but would have liked more details. It is rather limited. But, worth its value. See all 12 reviews.
